Lucite International (LI) believes that people are its greatest strength. One of the most vital parts of the Company’s diverse workforce across the globe is the young people who work across many different disciplines and LI continues to invest in learning and development opportunities to ensure they continue to flourish.

Trailblazing apprenticeship in the UK

In the UK, three LI employees were among the first in the country to complete a pioneering new, employer-led ‘Trailblazer’ apprenticeship scheme backed by the British government. A great benefit to both LI and the individual is the potential to secure a full-time position once the apprenticeship is completed.

A former apprentice, Natasha Connor, now Laboratory Supervisor at LI’s Cassel site in the UK shares her experience of joining the Company and how she has benefitted from learning and development opportunities since. Natasha said: “I started at LI in 2012 with the Young Scientist scheme. During the two-year program, I worked in the laboratory, received training and attended university on day release and was able to finish my scheme early. I was made a full-time employee in December 2013 and recently promoted to Laboratory Supervisor. I have now finished my Chemistry degree with First Class honours, and was delighted to receive an award for my grades and grateful for LI’s sponsorship throughout the course.”

Internships in Asia

LI sites in Asia commonly offer internships, with our Thai Poly Acrylic site in Thailand offering up to 15 internships each year, while our site on Jurong Island, Singapore teams up with Singapore Polytechnic to offer students a 24-week taste of life working on LI’s Alpha technology MMA production plant.

Building relationships with institutions in the USA

LI facilities in the USA focus on building relationships with local education institutions and our Beaumont site in Texas currently has two engineering students working part-time around their studies at Beaumont’s Lamar University. Denton Holloway, a sophomore in Electrical Engineering, has found his experience at LI has changed the course of his career. He said: “I never expected to have this level of success during my college years or to have the opportunity to work with such great people.” Colin H Burgason, a junior in Chemical Engineering, has found his experience at LI “priceless”. Through working with other engineers and seeing the vast array of opportunities that engineering has to offer has reaffirmed Colin’s aspirations to become a Chemical Engineer.
