The UK headquarters of KPMG, one of the world’s largest professional services companies and one of the ‘Big Four’ auditors, now features a dramatic new sculpture made from Perspex®. Luke Martyn from Perspex Distribution Ltd (PDL) shared the story of how this wonderful installation has transformed KPMG’s busy reception area into a colourful space of interest for visitors.
Luke said: “PDL works closely with a number of leading fabricator partners in the UK. One of the most creative of these is Inplas Fabrications, which is owned and run by one of the Perspex® brand’s most passionate advocates, Trevor Smith. Trevor has worked with us and with Perspex® for many years and is well-known for his projects that have taken the brand into the world of film and arts, as well as into the commercial world of retail, furniture and interior design. He is a true professional and it’s always a pleasure to find out about his next project in Perspex®.”
Artist Claire Knapp, was commissioned by KPMG to create a sculpture, which would add dramatic colour and movement to its reception space. The firm was keen to communicate its values as an integral part of the installation, which meant design and physical form working in complete harmony to achieve the perfect end result.
Trevor said: “We love working with artists who are looking to bring their concepts to life, and the properties of Perspex® enable us to create fascinating sculptured shapes. For this contemporary design we laser cut transparent Perspex® into spirals before individually stretching and thermoforming them and finally intertwining the spirals to create the sculpture.”
Using just three transparent colours (red 4401, blue 7703 and yellow 2202), each spiral was also laser etched with the KPMG values: ‘Global mindset’, ‘Value adding’, ‘Passionate’ and ‘Forward thinking’. The spirals appear to float on a system of custom-designed clear Perspex® pedestals. As experts in the design and fabrication of Perspex® Inplas Fabrications use the latest equipment and highly skilled people to ensure that every project is completed to the highest level of quality.
