Anticipating “what’s next” is important in any industry and it’s absolutely critical when it comes to design. Each year, Beth Almond, ASID, a US-based colour consultant who works across the LuciteLux® (known as Perspex® acrylic in Europe) and Lucite® acrylic brands, formulates a set of key design trends for the following year. These help our customers, partners and designers representing the retail, hospitality, architecture and interior design sectors to better understand the creative potential of our acrylic sheet products in the context of emerging trends. Here’s a quick view of Beth’s top nine trends for 2016:
Look out for rose gold and copper! The coming year will also bring gold and high-end polished brass. Bronze and brown metallic will replace the long popular oil rubbed bronze.
Think beyond spring. Good for all seasons with pink and green as the hot combo.
Zap! Bam! With the explosion of blockbuster, superhero hero movies, envision comic book brights as widely used accent colours. In your home, these colours could be focused on a pair of chairs, a wall, or some other significant element of the space.
Who’s the fairest of them all? In 2016, we’ll see mirrors in new and unusual shapes. Also look for words on mirrors and mirrored lighting fixtures.
Clever, perhaps counter intuitive combinations will stand out in the New Year. Look for LuciteLux® paired with metal, wood and more on fixtures and furniture as well as architectural features.
With its honed finish, black and white marble is timeless. But brown marble is one to watch in 2016.
You’ll marvel at marble on everything from clocks and fabric to home and fashion accessories.
Greek key motifs
This classic pattern rarely goes out of style and will be embraced in 2016 for lamps, rugs, furniture, jewellery and fashion.
Diamonds might be a girl’s best friend, but in 2016 the less sparkly finishes of terrazzo, agate, malachite, onyx, soapstone, lava stone and crystal will shine in the spotlight.
Want to know more about what’s behind these trends? We’ll share the themes, such as colour an culture that are influencing them in the coming months.
Trend predictions are from Beth Almond, ASID, Lucite International’s Colour Consultant for its LuciteLux® and Lucite® cast acrylic brands.
