Birmingham’s brand new, multi-storey Millennium Point car park, featuring Perspex® Frost, has won Best New Car Park in the 2012 British Parking Awards. This new addition to the sky-line is helping to stimulate regeneration of the area and forms part of Birmingham City Council’s multi-million pound ‘Big City Plan’. This important urban regeneration programme is gradually transforming residential, business and shopping areas and the Council considers the provision of high quality car parking facilities as key to attracting local workers, commuters and visitors into the city.
The Project Architect for the car park had complete confidence in specifying Perspex®. He said: “We chose Perspex® Frost in Arctic Blue for a number of reasons: first, it looked good and worked well with the palette of materials we were using. Its translucency helped transmit natural light during the day and the building’s internal lighting at night. It was also extremely easy to work with and cost-effective as we were able to use full size panels, which meant there was no waste. The use of Perspex® has helped create a well-lit, welcoming space for 1000 cars, which can be parked safely day and night.”
