As a global leader in the design, development and manufacture of acrylic-based products, actively keeping the planet healthy is at the heart of our strategic planning and production processes. Such environmental considerations – alongside economic, social and cultural factors – define how we operate globally and we either meet, or exceed, current requirements at all our operating sites.

Our largest MMA production facility, Cassel, in the North East of England, is at the forefront of the company’s drive to deliver continuous improvement as Amanda Buck, the site’s Environmental, Energy and Sustainability Manager, explained: “Everyone at Cassel plays a part in delivering the sustainability strategy – including process technicians who monitor emissions and prevent excursions, the maintenance team that ensures plant integrity and the projects and technical team that designs, installs and commissions improvement projects.

“We are pleased with the progress we’ve made however, with a company philosophy of continuous improvement, we know there will always be more to do.”

Late last year our Darwen site, also in the UK, won the Lancashire Business Environment Award for Waste Minimisation, recognising its significant improved performance in the minimisation, management, recovery and recycling of waste. Darwen currently sends just 0.2 percent of its waste to landfill and every year recycles around 500 tonnes of glass and saves the equivalent of 109 trees by cutting back on fibreboard used in packaging.

Waste reduction is one of our key initiatives and we have set an ambitious target of reusing and recycling to achieve zero waste to landfill by 2020 and, by the same year, we are also committed to reducing energy and water consumption and cutting CO2 emissions by 20 percent.

As a company we are working to achieve our long-term goal of becoming the world’s lowest environmental impact producer of MMA as we believe strongly that improved efficiencies not only benefit the planet, but local communities, customers, colleagues and the business itself.
