Jun Hao, a student from the National University of Singapore, is currently undertaking an internship at Lucite International Singapore Pte Ltd (LISPL) as part of working towards a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

We spoke to him about life at Lucite International.

Why did you choose Lucite International?

I felt that the job scope described would offer the best insights into Mechanical Engineering and exposure to real situations for the course I’m pursuing. I felt it would also help me decide more concretely on my future specialisation and work industry.

Can you describe a typical working day?

A typical day would involve studying particular aspects of maintenance of my own volition, to support my role where I would be going through technical training documents and learning machinery information and specifications whenever there wasn’t a hands-on task assigned.

Other times, I would be shadowing my supervisor to assess machine failures or maintenance procedures.

What are the top three things you’ve learned from your time at Lucite International?

– Using AutoCAD software

– Performing process diagram analyses

– Dealing with mechanical failures

How has Lucite International helped you achieve your goals?

Lucite International has given me a fresh perspective on the role of a Mechanical Engineer on an active chemical plant and patient guidance towards my development. Although I have yet to fully decide a direction for my future aspirations, the experience at Lucite International has helped broaden my understanding of the profession, and will be an important factor in shaping my future path.

What are your plans/goals for the future?

I’d like to graduate with good grades and pursue a Master’s degree.
