At Lucite International (LI), we firmly value investment in learning and development as part of our commitment to those who work for us. The work being done to invest in young people’s development across all of our sites bridges the gap between education and business and helps LI move forward with a skilled, talented and experienced workforce.

Talia Pryce, Laboratory Scientist Apprentice, works within the Alpha technology development team at our Wilton, UK site, alongside our scientists and engineers to develop improved catalysts. She is also completing a degree in Chemistry at the University of Bradford.

We spoke to Talia about her role.

What does your role involve and how does this help your degree study?

“In a typical day I perform analysis on samples and work on any smaller projects assigned to me. I attend a 2-week summer school at the university Bradford where I carry out assessed experiments, but the day-to-day laboratory work at LI also counts towards the practical element of the degree. The rest of the content is taught via distance learning over the internet.”

Why did you choose LI?

“The reason I was attracted to LI is that they offered a degree apprenticeship in Chemistry which is the subject I was originally preparing to take at university via the traditional route. This apprenticeship route allows me to gain hands-on experience in friendly working lab.”

What do you enjoy most about your work?

“I most enjoy the varied tasks that I am able to participate in and developing my practical skills.”

How would you describe the environment/culture here?

“The environment here is very supportive. Everyone is willing to help and very friendly.”

What are your goals or aspirations for the future?

“In the future I hope to complete my chemistry degree before pursuing a chemistry-based career.”

Describe working at Lucite International in three words…

“Varied, engaging, interesting.”
