Lucite International Singapore Pte Ltd (LISPL) has hosted two events recently as part of its commitment to corporate social responsibility; putting into practice one of the Company’s core values of being a caring neighbor. A total of 48 employees volunteered their time and effort to support the activities. Leong Kok Hou, Mechanical Engineer at LISPL, told us more.

“First, we held a ‘Terrarium Workshop’ at Sentosa, an island off Singapore’s southern coast, for children from the Singapore Children’s Society Service Centre, which provides after-school care for primary school students. Our LISPL volunteers and the children learnt how plants can self-sustain in a terrarium. They then designed their own terrarium by arranging plants in an enclosed container, which they took home with them afterwards.

“Later that week, we organized a photo hunt at the spectacular ‘Gardens by the Bay’ with the Children’s Cancer Foundation (CCF) for cancer survivors in remission, who were accompanied by their siblings, parents and carers. Participants and LISPL volunteers were divided into groups for the friendly competition. The Gardens by the Bay location meant they were able to enjoy stunning scenery and views of the conservatories, while having a fantastic opportunity to take photos as keepsakes.

“The response from LISPL volunteers for both events was overwhelmingly positive and they had a great time with the participants. Jefry, a LISPL volunteer for the photo hunt, said he enjoyed seeing the happy faces of everyone who joined in while Swee Lee, who helped at the Terrarium Workshop, said that making the terrarium while interacting with the children and fellow colleagues was fun.”

LISPL plans to continue organizing similar events in future to give employees opportunities to volunteer, be better, caring neighbors while promoting the importance of good corporate social responsibility.
