On 24 May Perspex Distribution Limited (PDL) celebrated the launch of its latest branch with a successful customer open day in Leeds. Phil Bailey, VP of Lucite International (LI) EMEA alongside Richard Lewis, Councillor at Leeds City Council, and PDL Managing Director, Keith Piggott, officially opened the new facility – PDL’s largest to date. Over 120 guests including valued customers and suppliers, council representatives and PDL employees joined in the celebrations.

For anyone reading this who did not already know, PDL is the leading UK supplier of Perspex® cast acrylic sheet and other products widely used in the signage, retail and printing industries. Following major growth across the group the new 30,225sqft office was a necessary step to serve customers across Yorkshire and Humberside in the north and east UK. The Leeds branch is the fifth in PDL’s portfolio, which also includes distribution centres in Blackburn, Tamworth, Chelmsford and Weybridge.

Keith, also General Manager of LI’s sheet and composites business in EMEA, explained: “This expansion is a direct result of our need to meet customer demand across the region. Our name is synonymous with exceptional service and product knowledge. Opening our largest operation in Leeds provides us with a strong foundation to grow both our product range and customer base in years to come.

Basing the new branch in Leeds places us central to many key customers and our location within the Leeds enterprise zone is fantastic for distribution. We have also generated 22 new jobs at the site covering a range of roles from sales and administration to warehouse and drivers and we have welcomed support from the local council.”

Leeds Branch Manager, Jonathan Marsden added: “It was a great opportunity to invite our customers along to the new Leeds premises and to give them a ‘behind-the-scenes’ look at our operation. Ultimately, our business is about stock availability and quick delivery to match the fast moving pace of our customers. Our two Holzma HPP500 saws, 500 tonnes of stock and fleet of five delivery vehicles will enable us to meet the growing demand for quality materials in this area.”

The open day also enabled the team to demonstrate the systems and services available from PDL, including order optimisation, LED schematic planning and up-to-the-minute cutting machinery. The full portfolio of products available from the company was also represented through key manufacturing partners including SloanLED (suppliers of LED modules for signage and display), Palram (manufacturers of PVC Foam and Polycarbonate), IPB (PETg & PET manufacturers) and MultipanelUK – (aluminum composite manufacturers).

Leader of Leeds City Council, Councillor Judith Blake said: “We are pleased to welcome PDL into the Leeds City Region Enterprise Zone, creating more new jobs and boosting the local economy. The growing momentum of the enterprise zone, shown by the number of businesses moving in, clearly demonstrates how attractive the area and broader city and regional economy has become to investors, which is great to see.”
