As a company committed to our people, we take pleasure in welcoming new members into our teams as they begin their journey with us.

David Gajda joined our Cassel, UK site in September this year as Facilities Manager. We spoke about his role and got to know some more about him…

What attracted you to working for us?

“I left the Army after a 23-year career and found myself in facilities management where I spent 15 years as an ‘in house’ Facilities Manager for properties from Aberdeen to Leeds. Having completed a BSc (Hons) degree and then a Masters in facilities management, I chose to further broaden my horizons by crossing over to the ‘service provider’ side of facilities management, where I learned a great deal about delivering service contracts and property management services to clients.

“After 5 years of running teams across a national portfolio, I yearned to be back ‘in house’ and Lucite International gave me the opportunity to do this. A new and exciting role in a challenging, complex and interesting environment, working alongside passionate people.”

What does a typical day in your role involve?

“No two days are the same! Each day brings different challenges and every day is a ‘school day’. There are different aspects to facilities management, whether planning a strategy or service delivery concept or delivering a project or service at operational level. Each has its different requirements and quirks.”

What do you enjoy most about your work?

“Facilities management is a challenging profession. It’s a people-orientated discipline centred on service delivery, requiring a thorough understanding and broad experience and knowledge to deliver it well.

“It’s one of those areas where you cannot please 100% of people all of the time. However, what makes the job rewarding is being able to influence and change the working environment for the better, developing and creating successful change projects and then seeing people benefit from those changes.”

How would you describe the environment/culture here?

“It takes time to learn the complexities of our Cassel site, but the culture is friendly and professional and people are willing to help and offer their experience and advice.”

What is your passion outside of work?

“I enjoy playing golf but I’m no Tiger Woods! It’s a difficult game to master and I started too late in life. I also have a couple of bikes and enjoy cycling, although finding the time is a challenge.”

If you could switch places with one person for a day, who would it be and why?

“The actor, Clint Eastwood, especially in his ‘Spaghetti Westerns’ as the tall, quiet and cynical ‘gunslinger’. A nameless man with a sublime, very calm, very organic persona who likes instinctual simplicity.”

Describe working for Lucite International in three words…

“Challenging, interesting, rewarding.”
