As a company committed to our people, we take pleasure in welcoming new members into our teams as they begin their journey with us.

Marc Stonehouse recently joined our Cassel, UK site as an Operational SHE (Safety, Health and Environment) leader. We spoke about his role and got to know some more about him…

What attracted you to working for us?

“I have worked a lot for contractors on sites such as Cassel, or offshore, and always had ambitions to work client-side. I wanted to work for a company that challenges you to improve the areas you work in while offering opportunities to grow.

“Opportunities to work for companies like Lucite International in such an important role don’t come around very often, so I was over the moon to be successful.”

What does a typical day in your role involve?

“Being a positive influence around safety on the plant and in meetings, to promote initiatives and to engage with the workforce to ensure safety is at the forefront of everything we do.

“During overhauls, my role intensifies due to the nature of work being done and the large upturn in personnel on site, so much more time is spent interacting with people which I really enjoy. Another important part of the job is investigating incidents to ensure we identify the causes as well as implementing corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.”

What do you enjoy most about your work?

“I enjoy being somebody the business and its people trust to make their workplace safer. I enjoy getting ‘stuck in’ and making improvements and I really enjoy working with the teams I work with. I’ve been very well treated by everybody. The best part of the job is when you can positively influence people’s attitude and behaviour.”

How would you describe the environment/culture here?

“There is a real willingness to do a good job and to improve at what we do. Even though small areas of resistance can never be completely avoided in a business of this size, the culture is positive with the right type of values – doing things safely and to a high standard.”

What is your passion outside of work?

“I am big boxing and football fan and I like my music, but my biggest passion and thing I am proudest of is my kids – 4-year-old twins called Bobby and Lola – my spare time is generally spent entertaining them.”

If you could switch places with one person for a day, who would it be and why?

“Liam Gallagher (former Oasis frontman) because he’s got the best job in the world.”

Describe working for Lucite International in three words…

“Demanding, enjoyable, rewarding.”
