Mark Hsu joined our Kaohsiung Monomer Company (KMC) site in Taiwan in March this year as an Instrument/Electrical Engineer. We spoke to Mark about what’s involved in this role and got to know some more about him…

What attracted you to working for us?

“I was attracted to the importance placed on safety in the working environment and the opportunity for a stable, growing career.”

What does a typical day in your role involve?

“As a responsible engineer for electrical systems, it involves a lot of things. There is the design, modification, installation and commissioning of electrical systems, through to inspection, testing and preventative maintenance.

“It also involves general operation of the electrical network, decommissioning of electrical systems and returning electrical equipment to service after extended shutdown periods.”

What do you enjoy most about your work?

“Of my daily activities, I most enjoy the design, modification and installation of electrical systems.”

How would you describe the environment/culture here?

“It’s friendly and enthusiastic, and I like the ‘safety first’ nature.”

What is your passion outside of work?

Spending time with my family and doing activities with them.”

If you could switch places with one person for a day, who would it be?

“A general manager. I imagine that being in that position and with that experience, my thought processes and decisions may be different. Maybe I could create different solutions to problems I encounter.”
