As a company committed to our people, we take pleasure in welcoming new members into our teams as they begin their journey with us.

Rex Liu joined our Kaohsiung Monomer Company site in Taiwan in July this year as a Maintenance Engineer. We spoke about his role and got to know some more about him…

What attracted you to working for us?

“I first heard about Lucite International (LI) many years ago during a training session. The lecturer mentioned that LI is a good company with a great safety, health and environment (SHE) approach.

“To me, SHE awareness is the most important think for every employee. Without SHE awareness, no company will last forever. That’s why LI attracted me.”

What does a typical day in your role involve?

“Currently, a handover is being completed. An experienced Maintenance Engineer is handing over his scope of work as he is retiring in 2020. A typical day in my role involves arranging contract work, making good connections with contractors, familiarising them with their responsibilities and keeping the plant running safely.”

What do you enjoy most about your work?

“As a Maintenance Engineer, keeping the plant running safely is the main mission. When something goes wrong, finding out the root cause then repairing it and returning it to normal operation makes me feel accomplished.

“With progress in technology and materials, it gives us the possibility of upgrading the plant with the latest capabilities which makes me eager to give it a try.”

How would you describe the environment/culture here?

“Small but complete. Our organisational culture is flat which means we can make quick decisions and responses. Everyone does their duty to keep the plant running safely and reliably.”

What is your passion outside of work?

“Travelling, nice food and movies. I love to go ‘backpacking’ and do my homework on destinations before I arrive to get a good understanding about the local culture. The local food is always the focus for me. Watching a movie is good escapism from real life, which can be relaxing.”

If you could switch places with one person for a day, who would it be and why?

“I would like to switch with the Hollywood actor, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. I knew about him back when he was a wrestler. He has a good image, a positive attitude and works hard at the gym. I used to work out when I was studying for my Mechanical Engineering degree and I miss those good times. Being in his shoes for one day could broaden my horizons, making me feel refreshed and full of energy.

Describe working for Lucite International in three words…

“Flexible, accurate, safe.”
