As a company committed to our people, we take pleasure in welcoming new members into our teams as they begin their journey with us.

Siu Ching Toh joined our Singapore site (LISPL) in March this year as a Mechanical Engineer. We spoke about his role and got to know him more…

What attracted you to working for us?

“I found that Lucite International’s job description suited my wish to explore a role more involved with equipment design, analysis and troubleshooting. Through the different stages of interview, I got to understand the company’s core vision, culture and day-to-day activities in depth, which can be rare here as certain companies are reluctant to discuss internal culture. I was impressed by the openness of communication.”

What does a typical day in your role involve?

“Reading the company’s SHE and operating procedures to get familiar with the way of doing things here in LISPL. I’ve attended internal and external training related to technical knowledge and required by local regulations. Site walks have helped to familiarise me with machine installation, equipment troubleshooting and allowed me to take part in conducting failure investigation and root cause analysis.”

What do you enjoy most about your work?

“Working with good and helpful people. Everyone understands what they are supposed to do and always carry out their tasks professionally. Trust and pro-activeness are encouraged, which enables me to get my jobs done in a comfortable and efficient way. It’s a lot better in terms of workplace culture and development opportunities compared to previous roles I’ve held.”

How would you describe the environment/culture here?

“Two-way communication has always been encouraged by management resulting in lesser gaps between people. Instructions and feedback can be conveyed almost immediately. The company’s involvement in community projects is a great move for the employees to understand the lives of less privileged, promote empathy and appreciate life.”

What is your passion outside of work?

“Hunting out good food, good coffee, hitting the gym and the cinema.”

If you could switch places with one person for a day, who would it be and why?

“A field technician – because it’s good to understand from the ‘ground force’s’ point of view and their perception of the workplace in terms of communication, well-being and technical information. The result would be knowing how to handle more transparent two-way communication, relationship building and discovering innovative ideas among my colleagues.”

Describe working for Lucite International in three words…

“SHE, involvement, ownership.”
