As a world-leading supplier of acrylic-based products and material solutions, Lucite International (LI) is committed to working with our partners across Europe to help shape the future in an inspiring, sustainable and responsible way.

As part of this commitment we are focusing on the local design community in Turkey to drive innovation and explore potential for our material with the launch of the first Acrylic Design Awards. Our aim is to stimulate design innovation by challenging students in the faculties of architecture, interior design, product- and industrial design to consider how acrylic can be used to create products and experiences that will contribute to a more sustainable future.

Building on the successes of the Acrylic Design Awards, that have been running for over 15 years, and the more recent North American ‘Just Imagine’ acrylic design competition, 2019 will see the launch of our first ever ‘Shaping the future’ Acrylic Design Awards in Turkey.

With its inherent versatility, acrylic offers endless potential, and its colours, effects and fabrication options have always excited and inspired designers. The new awards programme seeks to stimulate innovation from the next generation of designers and is the result of collaboration between LI, its Turkish distributor, Ak-tas and leading Turkish specialist design communications company, MIMARSIV.

Working with top universities in Turkey, students from all design related disciplines are being invited to participate in the awards, that offer winners both cash prizes and a unique profiling opportunity to kick-start their design career.

The prestigious judging panel for the awards includes Ass. Professor. Ece Ceylan Baba; Interior Architect, Atilla Kuzu; Architect, Melike Altinisik; Artist, Gunseli Kato; Architect, Sebnem Buhara; Industrial Designer, Arif Ozden; and representatives from the awards founders Ak-tas and LI.

Peter Snodgrass, Sales and Marketing Director for LI’s EMEA Monomers business, says:

“It is exciting to be launching our first Acrylic Design Awards in such an innovative, forward-thinking country where we have been involved with Ak-tas for many years. LI is committed to the Turkish market and is working closely with partners on the ground to drive engagement with the programme so that we develop new, exciting applications that have the potential to help customers grow their businesses.

Led by professional designers from MIMARSIV, the ‘Shaping the future’ Acrylic Design Awards 2019 launches this October with a roadshow visiting design faculties across Turkey.
