Robert Yates began his journey at Lucite International (LI) as a 12 month Commercial Placement Student in 2014 during his studies at The University of Hull. After completing his degree in Economics, he returned to LI in 2016 as a Commercial Graduate. We speak to Robert to find out more about why he enjoys his role, based at our Cassel site in the UK.

1) Describe working for the Company in three words

Supportive, varied, enjoyable.

2) What do you do in your role on a day-to-day basis?

I’m part of the European Procurement Team and look after the Goods and Services stream, which means my role changes daily (or sometimes hourly). Goods and Services covers anything from IT hardware and recruitment services to cleaning and travel so it can take a bit of refocussing to switch between tasks. My role is to provide a service to the business by managing the procurement process, from scoping and specifying the requirement, assessing vendors and proposals through to contract negotiation. I then continue to support the business functions with the ongoing management of contracts where required. I’m also on the lookout for any areas where I may be able to add value, whether it may be reducing risk, saving money or improving processes and saving time.

3) What has your training and development been like?

I came in as a Graduate so started off with job specific training to get me as up to speed as possible. I’ve done a few courses developing softer skills but hope this is something I can add to over time. I’m also about to start a Diploma in Procurement and Supply which is a qualification offered by CIPS (Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply).

4) How would you describe the work environment and Company culture?

Everyone is always supportive from the top to the bottom of the business and people tend to go out of their way to help. That coupled with professionalism and knowledge make it a good work environment.

5) What do you enjoy most about your role?

I enjoy the variety and working with people inside and outside of the business.

6) What advice would you give to somebody considering applying to Lucite International?

Give it a go, it’s enjoyable to work here and the people are great.
